We are fascinated by how complex behaviors emerge from cellular-scale interactions. Our interests span from phenotypic heterogeneity in clonal populations of cells to cross-kingdom interactions between microbes and multicellular life. The unifying goals of our work are to understand how cells work as collectives in nature, and how to predict when and where collective behaviors will emerge.
